Bonjour mes amis,
What do you think about having a first dance? I’ve had clients say that they don’t see the importance in having a first dance as it is not their personalities and they don’t dance.

A first dance does not have to be complicated, it could ultimately be whatever you decide you want. I’ve had couples do a salsa routine, and I’ve had others just stand and hold each other tight.
I do personally believe that a first dance is to have that special moment as husband and wife, while everyone (Parents, siblings, extended family and friends) is witnessing your love, the beginning of a new chapter.
When should you dance?
Traditionally, at any function, the first dance kicks off the dancing portion of the reception. Most couples wait until after dinner to open the dance floor by having their first dance. Once everyone is done eating, the couple will have their first dance, which now shifts the mood, and signals your guests to join in on the dance floor to celebrate with you and dance the night away.
However, nowadays couples prefer to head straight to the dance floor for their first dance after the grand entrance. The grand entrance is when the bridal party is introduced and the couple now makes their entrance as husband and wife. The drawback for this option is not having the first dance to signal your guests that it is time to hit the dance floor.
My recommendations are to either have a second dance, or do the father-daughter and/or mother-son dances after dinner to kick off the dancing portion of the evening.
Talk to your DJ or bandleader to help you decide when to do your first dance. You’ll need to consider your crowd, their energy level, the overall flow of the night, and what time you’ll need to be out of your venue.
